Importance of training on uneven surfaces

This is a great post written by Katy Bowamn, MS a biomechanist echoing one of the concepts of exercise Dr. Chris pleads with patients to implement. EXERCISE OUTSIDE. There are no even surfaces outside, so your body is constantly using small/postural muscles to improve balance and control movement. Disorganized movement patterns lead to chronic pain and movement injuries. Doing the same exercises on the same platforms (treadmills, ellipticals, benches, etc) use a fraction of muscles without firing essential postural muscles begging to be strengthened. Get outside where you have to use the various muscles of the legs, ankles, low back and neck as you are aware/shifting to balance the ever-changing environment below and in front of you.
